Metal that integrates with the body then is absorbed like a nutrient-releasing vitamin tablet
Amorphic MgZnCa REGENalloy™ is a bioresorbable biomaterial that looks like and behaves as metal but can be processed and moulded at low temperatures like a plastic. What stands out most though is that it can be safely absorbed (like a vitamin tablet) after doing its job of mending the body.
Like something out of a SciFi movie, REGENalloy™ can be used to re-align, anchor, support and repair structural parts of the body then safely bioresorb.
Proprietary Technology
Our team have been developing the REGENalloy™ system and methods since 2009. From the beginning, consultation with the leads of Depuy-Synthes in Switzerland and establishing a visiting collaboration with ETH Switzerland helped us define innovation focus and key opportunities. In working alongside surgeons and device manfucturers, we have discovered the essential priorities and unmet needs. Together with surgeons, we are seeking to improve how patients are treated, including children that could benefit greatly from implants that provide short term fixation before relenting and leaving the body.
Key IP around the biomaterial solution, systems, forming methods and surgical approaches have been protected and retained as trade secret.
Disruption Opportunity
Surgeons across disciplines have confirmed the largely unmet need for pediatric patients where often a second operation is required to remove implants and fixation devices to avoid pain and stunting. The option to have an implant do its job then be replaced by healthy bone is preferrable for general patients too.
REGENalloy™ bioresorbs to avoid causing imaging artifacts, the risk of infection, pain and sensitisation, stress shielding, and elution of deleterious metal ions such as Cr, Mo, Ni, Ti, Al, V that leak from current permanent implants. Ultimately, restoring the body to health without any persisting foreign-body risk is going to grow in priority as we live and remain active for longer.
